The European-spec Toyota bZ4X comes with a range of improvements, which might be introduced to versions offered in the United States. The bZ4X now has more powerful electric motors; the all-wheel-drive car makes 337 horsepower, while the US version only makes 215 horsepower. In addition to improved home charging speed, Toyota’s updated compact electric SUV features a more compact standard battery as well as an option that is slightly larger than its previous version. The Toyota bZ4X got bad reviews when it first came out in 2023. Since then, Toyota has tried to make the EV more appealing by suggesting a big price drop for 2025 after adding 2024 features. However, much more important news for the European market has just come out. A More Powerful bZ4X The first change is that two new electric motors with silicon carbide chips have been added to make them more powerful. The single-motor front-wheel-drive bZ4X can make either 164 or 211 horsepower, depending on the size of the battery. The FWD type that can be bought in the Philippines right now can fit 201 horses. HP goes from 215 in the current US model to 337 in the dual-motor version, which is a big jump. The Euro model is becoming more different, but the latest bZ4X in the US has two battery packs with about the same amount of power (63.4 and 65.5 kWh). Our best guess is that the bigger pack can hold 65.8 kWh while the smaller pack can hold 51.9 kWh. If we get a new 11-kW or 22-kW onboard charger, we can charge at a much faster rate with Level 2 AC. Both are more stable than our current 6.6-kW device. A new method for pre-conditioning batteries should make charging faster in cold weather, but DC fast charging can only go up to 150 kW. The outside of the bZ4X has changed, and the 12.3-inch touchscreen has been swapped out for a normal 14.0-inch screen. The instrument panel layout on the dashboard is still a little off, but the updated center console now has two wireless charging stations. Toyota says that the updated bZ4X has better handling and less noise. There is no word on when the changes will be made to the US model of the bZ4X. The updated model will go on sale in Europe in the coming months.
