This new lineup was focused on work and towing capability. In 1994, the respected Cummins turbo-diesel was introduced to the market. The drivetrain was an instant favorite due to its reliability and torque. With the popularity of this drivetrain, they became a mainstay competing with Ford and GM in the late 90s and 2000s.

Fast forward to 2010, Ram split from Dodge, becoming its own brand. Once the brands separated, from the 1/2 ton pickup to the 3500, they started focusing on driver comfort, technology, and safety. The Ram Heavy Duty line-up was the first to feature coil-spring rear suspensions, bringing more comfort and capability to drivers. Ram Heavy Duty was designed to be the workhorse you expect during the week and great for road trips on the weekend.

What Does 2026 Bring to the Iconic Lineup

As mentioned above, for 2026, there are two new trim options. Another exciting addition is the expanded powertrain warranty, now increased to 10-year/100,000-mile. The 2026 has an increased Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), with certain trims and configurations reaching up to 11,040 lbs., making it useful as an everyday workhorse.

Much of the 2026 Ram 2500 remains the same, including the powertrain lineup, which features the standard 6.4 L HEMI V8 or the iconic 6.7 L Cummins diesel. The only visual changes to the 2026 are slightly updated interior and exterior design touches, as well as additional options and trims. Consumer Reports predicts this truck will have about-average reliability compared with the average new car, based on recent model data.

Source: The First Ever Ram Power Wagon with the Legendary Cummins Diesel, YouTube, uploaded by Ram Trucks, January 1, 2026.

It’s time for the Ram 2500 Review 2026.
