How to pick quickly

All Trax models use a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive only—there’s no all-wheel drive option. It makes 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. In Car and Driver’s tests, it went from 0 to 60 mph in 8.8 seconds, which is fine for city driving but not especially quick for highway passing.

Fuel economy is one of the Trax’s best everyday features. Chevrolet says it gets 30 mpg combined, with 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for the 2026 model.

The official FuelEconomy.gov site lists two versions:

  • 2026 Chevrolet Trax (regular gasoline): 28 city, 31 highway, 29 combined
  • 2026 Chevrolet Trax (Flex Fuel) on regular gasoline: 28 city, 32 highway, 30 combined (and a separate E85 rating that is lower)

Most drivers will get fuel economy close to these EPA numbers, though your results may vary based on your commute, the roads you drive, and how much you push the turbo.

Every 2026 Trax comes with Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of six advanced safety and driver-assistance features. These include Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam High Beam Assist (as listed by Chevrolet).

Towing is a clear limitation for the 2026 Trax. Its maximum towing capacity is not available, so it’s not rated for towing. If you need to pull a trailer, you’ll want to look at a different Chevy model.
