• The 2023 Model S and Model X prices have been cut by about $5,000 and $10,000, respectively, due to another big discount from Tesla.
  • The Model S starts at $91,380, and the Model X at $101,380. Each one now costs $111,380 in plaid versions.
  • Tesla lowered the price of the Model Y SUV and the Model S and X earlier this year.

If you bought a Tesla Model S or Model X yesterday at a total price, you might be disappointed to hear that Tesla has cut costs even more. The starting prices for the 2023 Model S and Model X were recently cut by $5,000 and $10,000, respectively.

Model S and Model X discounts

Instead of starting at $96,630, the Model S now costs $91,380. Instead of starting at $111,630, the Model X now costs $101,380. For $111,380, you can now buy the high-performance Plaid models of each. The Model S started at $116,630, and the Model X used to cost $121,630. (Model X).

Because of this, the price of the Model S goes down by about 4%, while the cost of the Model X goes down by almost 9%. Even with the most recent price cuts, the Model S and Model X are still Tesla’s most expensive cars.

Tesla cut the prices of its two most expensive cars by $10,000 each in January. This is Tesla’s second such instance this year.

Costs change all the time

According to Reuters, this is the fifth time that Tesla has raised its prices since the beginning of the year. The price of the Model Y SUV was cut by $13,000 in January so that it would cost less than the $55,000 limit set by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This made it eligible for the federal tax credit. This was the most significant change.

Even the most innovative customers need clarification on how prices always go up and down. People who had just bought a new Tesla were furious when the value of their cars dropped early this year because of sudden price drops in China. A video from Reuters shows that hundreds of protesters gathered at Tesla stores and yelled, “Return the money, return our cars!”

Since the price cuts in January, there has yet to be a single case of Tesla giving money back. So it’s unlikely that Tesla will provide any to the owners of the most recently marked-down cars.
