2026: The Subaru Solterra Adds More Speed And Range While Keeping Costs Relatively Unchanged

The prices for Subaru’s 2026 Solterra line are now public. The base price for the Premium trim is currently $39,945, which remains unchanged from last year. The base price for the new Limited XT is $44,345, and the price of the Limited trim has gone down by $570 to $42,845. The Touring, now known as the Touring XT, costs $47,005, up from $46,415. The company also states that the new Solterra may have a range of more than 288 miles, surpassing the 227 miles of the previous model.

The Subaru Solterra seemed like a failed attempt, even as the first electric vehicle. When it was introduced for the 2023 model year, the Solterra was essentially a rebadged Toyota bZ4X. The biggest problem with it was that neither of them was very competitive. Subaru is taking the 2026 Solterra seriously by implementing several changes that address major issues.

Both the Toyota and the Solterra are available only with two motors and all-wheel drive. Those motors are now making more power, though. The base model now features 233 horsepower, up from 215 horsepower previously, and the new XT model boasts 338 horsepower. Subaru claims that the XT can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds. This is significantly faster than the 6.1 seconds it took us to reach that speed with a 2024 model.

Solterra also fell short in terms of range, but the 2026 model improves in that area as well. Although the 75-kWh battery is only 2 kWh larger than before, Subaru claims the 2026 Solterra can now travel up to 285 miles on a single charge. This represents a significant improvement over the current car, which achieves fuel economy of between 222 and 227 miles per gallon, depending on the trim level.

The 2026 Solterra also features a built-in NACS charging port, allowing it to be charged at Tesla Supercharger sites when needed. The 2024 model had a top charging rate of 99 kW, but it could accept up to 150 kW of ions at most.

The all-wheel-drive system in the Solterra features 8.3 inches of ground clearance, hill descent control, and Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, allowing it to handle some rough terrain.

The exterior of the ’26 model is slightly different, but the changes inside are more noticeable. The front end is smoother, and the headlights have a six-element lighting pattern. The Subaru logo is lit up, and the plastic around the wheel wells doesn’t have to be black. It can be body color instead. Inside, the center panel features two wireless charging pads and an infotainment screen that is slightly larger (14.0 inches).
