Mazda always talks about how its cars are made with the driver in mind. Even though this isn’t an unusual or particularly unique goal for an automaker to have, it’s clear that this is how the designers of the new 2024 CX-90 thought about many of the car’s small details. Here are some exciting things about the upcoming luxury SUV with three rows of seats.

A larger center console

The CX-90 is bigger than Mazda’s current crossover, the CX-9. Because there is more room, the CX-90 can have a larger center console. In the CX-9, the cupholders were behind the shifter, but in the CX-5, they were to the right of the shifter.

There are seats for 6, 7, or 8 people.

In the middle row, the Mazda CX-90 can be ordered with captain’s chairs or a bench, and the back row can have a bar with two or three seats. Using the model as a guide, it can hold six, seven, or eight people. But the third row is roomier than the third rows of some other three-row SUVs.

Making the doors bigger

We didn’t expect the CX-90’s back doors to open about 90 degrees more comprehensively than they do. Representatives from Mazda say that this is like the doors on the CX-50. It adds a lot of space inside the car for people or car seats.

Chrome and maple door trim

Under the chrome strip that runs along the top of the front doors of the CX-90 with the highest trim level, there are thin wood panels. The wood was chosen because it caught the light, and the panels were slightly angled so that you could see this when the sun was out.

Fabric and embroidery on the dashboard

The dash is covered with a fabric made with the Nishijin-ori hand-weaving method from Japan. The random pattern has a small amount of golden thread woven into it. Mazda says a vital stitch finishes the horizontal line across the front in the middle of the fabric. This stitch was inspired by hand-bookbinding and the Japanese weaving method called Kumihimo.

A small, big screen

The CX-90 has a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that is laid out horizontally. In keeping with the simple design of the cabin, the screen is stretched out wide and short, drawing attention to the vast space in front of the house.

Towing capability

Mazda hasn’t said much about the CX-90 yet, but we know that it will be able to tow and that the powertrain will have a “tow mode.” We are still determining how much the CX-90 can pull, but pictures in the press show it drawing a 26-foot Bowlus Road Chief, so we’re sure it can pull at least 4000 pounds. The 2023 Mazda CX-9, on the other hand, can tow 3500 pounds.

The second row of seats is both heated and cool.

Because the CX-90 is wider than the CX-9, the front seats are farther apart than in the CX-9. When passengers are seated, they will see that the captain’s chairs can heat and cool, and the space between them in the middle row may have another console or be open (if so equipped).

Automobile side decals

Mazda has put thin emblems above and behind the front wheel arches to show which powertrain is hidden under the hood. This is done to make the most of the ample space between the dashboard and the axle that the new longitudinally positioned engine gives. “Inline 6” is the name of Mazda’s new 3.3-liter inline-six turbocharged engine, while “PHEV” is the name of the new e-Skyactiv plug-in hybrid powertrain.
