• Of all the Porsche 911 generations, the 996 generation is often regarded as the most unique and distinctive.
  • From updating the iconic look of earlier generations to offering unique features, the 996 generation presents plenty of reasons for enthusiasts to appreciate it.
  • Because of this, cars like this 2002 Carrera convertible, which is for sale on the Bring a Trailer auction site, offer the same great driving experience for a lot less money.

Of course, you wouldn’t be the only one. Even though your boss and friend both have one, doesn’t the fact that so many people use the 911 show that it’s better? Many times, the average person has the right idea. Calling 911 is never cheap, though, since everyone knows about it. The 996 generation fills in that gap, and this very nice 2002 911 Carrera car makes a strong case for being the first 911. Along with Invoice Pricing, it is being auctioned off on Bring a Trailer, which is a part of Hearst Autos. The auction closes on December 31.

The 996 has been through more damage than any of the 911’s many versions. The 996 has a bad image, which is mostly due to 911 purists who are angry that Porsche switched from an air-cooled to a water-cooled engine. The next thing that was thought about was style, which led to the 911 getting bigger and “fried egg” headlights being added. Last on the list was the trouble with IMS bearings.

Now, twenty years later, none of those reasons are still valid. To begin with, both air-cooled and water-cooled 911s are very exciting, though each has its own signature style. The back wheels get 320 horsepower from a 3.6-liter flat-six engine paired with a six-speed manual gear.

Different people have different tastes in cars, but we really like the 996. After twenty years, we’ve grown to like the headlights, even though they could be better. Also, while every new 911 has a wide body, there’s something special about seeing an old narrow-body design.

The Carrera has been swapped out for an LN Engineering unit, so don’t worry about the IMS bearings. In addition, the description says that the clutch parts were changed in September 2014, after 59,000 kilometers.

Along with the new IMS bearing, this model has a Kenwood radio, gold 18-inch wheels, a K&N air intake system, and an aftermarket exhaust. It has 64,000 miles on it.

December 31 is the last day to bid on the sale.
