The current Nissan Sentra was a good deal for a budget sedan with modern technology and a decent interior, but it was never particularly exciting to drive, appealing, or unique. This promise is kept by the new ninth-generation Sentra. The SR trim is still available, but don’t let that fool you. The Sentra is a good choice for people who want to buy a new car that is cheap but not very fast.

A Familiar Small Sedan Receives A Distinctive Look In The 2026 Nissan Sentra

The first part is the exterior of the new Sentra, which is a complete redesign of the current compact’s shape. The front end now resembles Nissan models, such as the Murano and Ariya. It features a sharp chin and a blacked-out grille. It’s a bit much that the projectors’ LED lip has black lines that drop off of it, but what modern car doesn’t?

The big changes are on the inside of the Sentra, which is in good shape. The SL trim is the color I’d choose. It features a blue faux-leather dashboard and blue accents on the seats and other interior components. On the other hand, drivers will have to deal with a shiny screen instead of hard buttons to change the temperature, which will be very annoying. There will be a 12.3-inch tablet in all trims, but the instruments may look different. To match the main screen, the panel is 7 inches wide on the base S grade and 12.3 inches wide on all other classes.

Nissan appears to be very pleased with the Sentra’s cargo space, as they claim it has “one of the lowest trunk liftover heights in its class.” The door opening has been designed to facilitate easy entry and exit. Additionally, the fact that all models come with intelligent cruise control is a notable advantage.

We haven’t reviewed the Sentra’s performance so far because not much has changed. The only motor option remains a naturally aspirated two-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 149 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. It is equipped with a CVT that, according to Nissan, has been “retuned” to deliver smoother acceleration. Each model features an independent front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. This is superior to the Kicks’ torsion-beam rear axle, which can be configured in various ways.

The SR grade below attempts to look sporty, but it’s essential to note that it’s actually the same car as the others, even though it appears different. Since there hasn’t been a Sentra Nismo since 2019, we asked Takahiro Aiba, who is in charge of developing Nismo cars, when they would return. He only said that the section cannot discuss plans for new products. We know the man needs to pay attention to his new GT-R.

Nissan hasn’t announced the price of the new Sentra yet, so that will definitely impact whether it is a good buy. It cost $22,835 to deliver the car in 2025. It’s almost certain that the amount will increase due to the tariff issue and the fact that prices are rising everywhere. Nissan has discussed relocating Sentra production to the US but hasn’t confirmed the move yet.
