Mercedes-AMG has stated that it is in the process of creating a next-gen V-8, calling it a “high-tech electrified V-8. The mill is crafted specifically for performance models riding on the brand’s advanced AMG.EA platform. The 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 is set to continue, though its availability will be restricted to select markets. Mercedes-AMG has said that it is making a new V-8 engine for its next high-performance cars. The Affalterbach-based automaker stated that they would be building a smaller G-class SUV at the same investor meeting where the news was shared. Mercedes says that the AMG brand wants to “outgrow the performance market” in the future with a much better lineup that will be offered starting in 2026. How are they going to improve that lineup? It features a newly developed engine, referred to by the company as a “next-generation, high-tech electrified V-8.” We’re not sure what the word “electrified” means in this case. Is everything brand new and made from scratch? Is Mercedes making the latest 4.0-liter V-8 hybrid engine behind closed doors? Another thing to consider is the size of the battery. Mercedes could go with a bigger battery and a plug-in system, or it could stick with the 48-volt technology that most of its cars use. The engine will likely be built into the AMG.EA platform, along with “dedicated high-performance electric models.” Mercedes was more open about the fact that the 6.0-liter V-12 would still be made. The V-12 will only be offered in a few areas, which is a shame. The V-8, on the other hand, is being made to meet the strict emissions rules of the European Union.
