BMW is introducing significant changes to the i4 lineup for 2026, which will impact power and range. The new semiconductor parts in the rectifier make it more efficient, adding approximately 5 percent to the expected range of the i4. The top-of-the-line i4 M50 will be updated to the i4 M60 in 2026, adding 56 horsepower to its total of 592. BMW is making the i4 electric car better by increasing its power and range before releasing the i3 with its new Neue Klasse design. According to BMW, the new silicon-carbide semiconductor parts used in the updated i4’s inverter will make it use about 5% less energy. With a full charge, the energy savings amount to approximately 14 miles of additional range. However, your actual mileage may vary depending on the trim and equipment you have. Currently, the rear-drive eDrive40 can travel approximately 301 miles on a single charge. The AWD xDrive40 can travel approximately 307 miles on 18-inch wheels or 19-inch tires. The EPA reports that the best-performing M50 currently achieves only 245 miles per gallon. BMW is making the i4 faster, at least at the top of the range, while also increasing its fuel efficiency. The top trim level for the last four model years, the M50, is no longer offered. It is being replaced by the M60, which has up to 592 horsepower in Sport mode, which is 56 more horsepower than the M50. The changes will be implemented by BMW in Europe this summer, but production in the US will not start until the fourth quarter, according to a BMW official. As a result, the improvements won’t be available until the 2026 model year. The exact range of numbers and prices will be made public closer to the sale date.
