Sources say Frank Moser, who oversees the 718 and 911 lines, told Porsche engineers that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was an “eye-opening” car. Moser found the high-performance EV SUV’s fake engine sound and fake gearbox to be especially interesting. Based on what Moser said, it sounds like the upcoming Porsche 718 EV will have shifting and fake exhaust noise. People who have driven a Hyundai car in the last few years can attest to how far the brand has come, even though some people on online boards still hate the company like it’s 1998. This is especially true for Hyundai’s electric cars, especially the Ioniq 5 N, which, according to the Australian magazine Drive, had a lasting effect on the Porsche team. Frank Moser, vice president of Porsche’s 718 and 911 lines, told an Australian newspaper that the Ioniq 5 N was an “eye-opening” car for the company. It is said that Moser spent a lot of time in the car and liked the fake exhaust sound and the shifting. Moser said, “That [Ioniq 5 N] taught us a lot.” I’ve driven it a few times. They did a wonderful job. It looks like other Porsche executives agree with Moser. In the same interview, Moser said that Andreas Preuninger, who is in charge of Porsche’s GT and RS, was just as excited, even though he had some doubts at first. Preuninger heard Moser say, “Come on, I’m going to pick you up in the Ioniq 5 N.” When I hit the [N Grin Boost] button, he said, “Wow.” The thing they did was great. When asked if Porsche had learned anything from the Hyundai, Moser allegedly said, “This is the way,” and added that he was happy with the car. He said drivers shouldn’t have to use the features; they should be able to choose whether to use them. Porsche hasn’t said much about the new 718 EV, but Moser’s words suggest the new model will have a fake transmission and fake exhaust.
