The base price wasn’t much less than $27,500, which included the government tax credit of $7,500 for electric vehicles that was about to end. The car company’s website now states that the Slate Truck will cost in the “mid-twenties,” which is more than what was previously expected. TechCrunch first reported this. After President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill passed last week, the prices on Slate’s website changed. The plan included a provision that would have ended the federal EV tax credit on September 30, along with other significant changes. The truck won’t be available to the public until late 2026, so the predicted price of the EV has an asterisk next to it to indicate that it is subject to change. It also means that state and local benefits may still be available to help reduce costs even further. Before Trump took office earlier this year, the Slate Truck’s attractive price tag was based on government benefits that were never a sure thing. Despite its estimated price of around $27,500, the Slate Truck is expected to be more competitive than the Ford Maverick, which has a starting price of $29,840. It won’t try to be the cheapest car in the US by beating the Nissan Versa and Hyundai Venue. The Slate does not have power windows, a sound system, or a touchscreen, but the Maverick does. The modular electric truck starts at around $20,000, which may deter some customers. On the other hand, the Slate Truck could get away with a simple cabin for less than $20,000.
