• According to a recent report from MoparInsiders, Stellantis is preparing to bring back the Hemi lineup of V-8 engines this August.
  • According to the report, production is set to be relocated to the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan, where it will encompass the 5.7-liter, “392” 6.4-liter, and Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engines.
  • This report comes in the wake of numerous rumors suggesting the return of the V-8, following Tim Kuniskis’s reinstatement as Ram CEO in December.

Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, was fired in December. Tim Kuniskis then took over as CEO of Ram, which made people more hopeful that the Hemi V-8 engines would come back. The most recent Ram 1500 no longer comes with a V-8 engine choice, and the new Dodge Charger also only has a Hurricane six-cylinder engine. A new article on MoparInsiders says that the eight-cylinder powertrains will start being made at the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan in August. This has led to more rumors that the Hemi V-8 might come back.

According To A Recent Report, Stellantis Is Set To Restart Production Of The Hemi V-8 Engine For Its Cars Beginning In August

MoparInsiders says that the whole engine family will be part of the Hemi resurrection. While Stellantis is ready to bring back the 5.7-liter engine, they will also equip the 6.4-liter engine with the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that was used in the scary Hellcat models and the “392 Hemi” badge because the 6.4-liter V-8 engine is still used in Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks. However, with some small changes from the 6.4-liter engine in Scat Pack and SRT models, Hemi production never really stopped. The 5.7-liter and 6.2-liter V-8s have always been made, but Dodge has decided to keep the V-8 in the Durango until the 2025 model year.

The Hurricane inline-six engines used in the Ram 1500, Jeep Wagoneer, and Dodge Charger Sixpack are now made in Mexico at the Saltillo Engine Plant. The plant used to make Hemi V-8 engines. The story says that the V-8s will now be made in Dundee, Michigan. This is where Stellantis used to make the Tigershark 2.4-liter inline-four and the Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6. Stellantis had already said that starting in 2025, the Dundee plant will make a new turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that will be used in hybrid cars.

There have been rumors in the past that the Hemi V-8 might come back. It was said in a story that a document from earlier this month had been stolen and that the Ram 1500 TRX and the 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter Hemi engines would be coming back. Tavares was the main person who was against the Hemi engines, and he wouldn’t give up, even though most of Stellantis’ leaders wanted to keep the V-8s. This news came after earlier reports from inside the company. A Stellantis representative stated that the company is making the 6.4-liter V-8 engine for their HD vehicles in Mexico right now and said, “Anything else is speculation.”
