The Chevy Silverado EV ZR2, a race truck set to compete in the Mint 400, boasts an impressive 1100-horsepower tri-motor powertrain. Additional enhancements consist of 37-inch BFGoodrich tires, Multimatic spool-valve dampers, and locking differentials. Chevy is set to launch the Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer, introducing a range of off-road enhancements to the street-legal electric pickup truck. People haven’t paid as much attention to electric pickup trucks as they have to gas-powered ones. Even though the aSilverado EV started going on sale in earnest in 2024, only 7428 units were sold, a small number compared to the 560,264 sales of the regular Silverado. Chevy is making the Silverado EV ZR2 to get people interested in its full-size electric truck. It will compete in the Mint 400, an off-road event in Nevada that starts this week. Even better, the race truck teases an off-road Trail Boss version that can be driven on public roads later this year. Chevrolet’s Electric Racing Truck The Silverado EV ZR2 was assembled in less than five months, and GM made almost all of its parts. Compared to a regular Silverado EV, the ZR2 has stronger front and back suspension parts designed to work better off-road. Mush-terrain tires that are 37 inches on the truck help it get more lift and a higher running height. The Silverado EV ZR2 also has special Multimatic semi-active spool-valve dampers. Chevy says the prototypes’ front and back wheels can move more than 13 inches. The ZR2 race truck also has locked differentials and underbody skid plates to protect important parts. Even more interesting is Chevy’s claim that the ZR2’s tri-motor electric engine makes 1100 horsepower. That’s a huge improvement over the Silverado EV RST, which can be driven on the road and has a dual-motor system with a top power output of 754 horsepower. The Silverado EV and the most powerful Hummer EV share a chassis. The Hummer EV’s three-motor system is likely tuned for the race truck. Chevy says the ZR2’s engine makes 11,500 pound-feet of torque, which is the same amount of torque that the three-motor Hummer says it makes. It’s possible that this number was guessed at the wheel, though, like the wrong number that General Motors gave in its 2020 Super Bowl ad. Most of the time, a more common way to measure torque would give a result of 1000 to 1100 pound-feet, which is still a very amazing number. Chad Hall Racing will race the Silverado EV ZR2 and Colorado ZR2 race trucks, which run on gas. There will only be one other car in the Open Production EV class besides the Silverado EV ZR2. Chevrolet experts and the race crew will work together closely, and Chevy says that the lessons learned will be used on regular cars and performance add-ons. Prepare for the Arrival of the Silverado EV Trail Boss The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss is set to be unveiled this summer, and the Silverado EV ZR2 shows up. In 2022, Chevy showed off the Trail Boss Silverado EV. However, making the Silverado EV took longer than planned, and it looks like the Trail Boss was dropped while the company worked on releasing other Silverado EV models. Chevy is now getting ready to release the off-road version. It will have a factory-added lift, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 35-inch all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and a mode called “Terrain.” The red-orange Trail Boss is shown with wheels made just for that type and a new front bumper. Chevy says that more information about the Silverado EV Trail Boss will be available soon.
