Photos of the car being tested on a track bring Mercedes one step closer to revealing the Concept AMG GT Track Sport, which was first suggested earlier this summer. A big NACA duct is on the hood of the Track Sport, and the car has a sharp front splitter and a huge back wing. Mercedes calls the Track Sport a concept, but it’s a sneak peek at the upcoming AMG GT Coupe, designed for the track. The 2021 Black Series was the best of the first series of Mercedes-AMG GT Coupes. It had aerodynamic features and 720 horsepower from a flat-plane-crank twin-turbo V-8 engine. The Concept AMG GT Track Sport is a more extreme Mercedes-Benz under development. Some new shots show what the powerful sports car might look like, even though the second-generation GT Coupe hasn’t been made in Black Series yet. Mercedes says the Track Sport is a concept car originally designed to break track records. But since Mercedes only called the Track Sport a “future member of the GT family as a vision with a promise,” it wouldn’t surprise us if this idea led to a future production model, maybe called the Black Series. Even though the Track Sport hasn’t been released yet, these new pictures show the changes better than the vague hints released earlier this year. For track testing, the coupe has a beautiful wrap with red and yellow accents and a huge rear wing supported by swan-neck mounts. On the Track Sport’s hood, you can see a big NACA fan as well as two more intakes with dozens of tiny holes on either side. The Track Sport has this venting over the front wheels as well as a side-exit exhaust right in front of the back wheels. Inside the front grille, a big splitter sticks out, and we’re sure there are many more changes hidden beneath the disguise. Mercedes says the idea focuses on improving the V-8 engine and the car’s aerodynamic profile. It also aims to be lighter and more evenly distributed. Even though Mercedes hasn’t said anything else, we think that the Concept AMG GT Track Sport will be fully unveiled in the next few months before participating at some of the best racetracks in the world, maybe even the famous Nürburgring.
