While traditional automakers embrace cutting-edge technology and complicated powertrains, simple, durable off-road automobiles have always sold well. Ineos Grenadier’s new Quartermaster is for this market. Pickup is realistic.

The Grenadier Quartermaster debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The 3.0-liter BMW inline-six supercharged engine with 281 horsepower powers the standard Grenadier. It always features four-wheel drive, an eight-speed transmission, and a transfer case with two-speed high and low ranges.

Ineos extended the Quartermaster’s ladder frame 12 inches to accommodate the truck bed. Despite being smaller than a Toyota Tundra’s short bed, it fits European pallets at 5.3 feet wide and 5.2 feet long. Like a Grenadier, it can carry 1,653 pounds and pull 7,700 pounds.

Ineos displayed the Quartermaster’s bed with welded circular bars to hold things down. Beds have 400-watt power outlets and tie-down rings. You and a friend can converse in the back because the entrance is 4.2 feet wide and holds 496 pounds.

The Quartermaster will have standard, Fieldmaster, and Trailmaster trim levels like the regular wagon versions. The Trailmaster sports a snorkel, off-road tires, and lockable front and rear differentials. Fieldmasters have heated leather seats, floor mats, and other niceties.

Ineos claims the Quartermaster will have a 10.4-inch ground clearance and 31.5-inch swimming depth. The business promises “approach, break over, and departure angles unmatched by any other series-produced pickup.” If true, Ineos might make many friends.

The Quartermaster will debut in the US in 2024 at an unspecified price. It will rival ordinary pickup trucks. Jeep Gladiator is its primary competitor. Ineos will strive to dominate the market even if the Land Rover Defender is no longer built and the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series is unavailable.
