Porsche said on the earnings call for the first half of the year that a new 911 Turbo S with a hybrid engine would be shown off later this year. The 911 GTS T-Hybrid’s electric motor can continuously make 54 horsepower, which means that the new Turbo S might have close to 700 horsepower. Porsche said that a new small SUV will replace the gas-powered Macan by 2028. Porsche unveiled its electric Macan SUV last year. This summer, they showed off the updated Taycan EV, which just won the 2025 EV of the Year award from invoice-pricing. However, Porsche isn’t getting rid of its gas-powered cars. In its mid-year results report, the German carmaker highlighted two impressive new internal combustion engine vehicles: an updated 911 Turbo and an upcoming SUV aimed at delivering better fuel efficiency than the existing Macan. The vast majority of Porsche’s 911 models have already been updated, and the GTS model now has a new hybrid engine. The only cars that didn’t change for 2025 were the Turbo and Turbo S. Even the track-focused GT3 received some minor adjustments. On Porsche’s earnings call, however, CEO Oliver Blume revealed that the new Turbo S will come out later this year and have its hybrid drivetrain. We think that a model that isn’t an S will join it. The new Turbo S is expected to be faster than the previous model due to its hybrid engine. The 3.7-liter flat-six twin-turbo engine in the standard Turbo makes 572 horsepower. The Turbo S makes that number 640. The T-Hybrid system in the GTS added 532 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque. It did this by using an electric motor and an artificial turbocharger. This means that a hybrid Turbo S could make more than 700 horsepower. It looks like there will be a weight penalty of about 100 pounds, though, based on the GTS. The Macan EV essentially replaces the gas-powered Macan, which was introduced in 2015 and remains available for purchase in the US. The Macan with internal combustion has already been taken off the European market because of safety issues. However, Porsche has now said that there will be a gas-powered version of its small SUV. Blume said that the new crossover will be ready in 2028. This comes after Porsche said in March that it was thinking about making a new gas-powered SUV. Blume says it will be different from the Macan EV, and we think it might even have a new name. Although Porsche has limited time to develop this new car by 2028, we believe it will utilize the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) engine, which powers the 2025 Audi Q5. This will let Porsche release the SUV earlier. This wouldn’t be a surprise since the current gas Macan and the last model Q5 share a platform. The updated Q5 is fitted with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 268 horsepower, whereas the SQ5 is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 362 horsepower. The car that replaces the Macan might have both engines. Blume also mentioned on the call that the electric versions of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are still in development but have been delayed. When the Cayenne EV is announced later this year, it will go on sale in 2026. They will now be easy to get to. Because of this, the 718 EV should be ready for purchase in 2027.
