Ford is making a new substantial electric SUV with three rows of seats. The American car company says it will differ from anything else. The Ford Expedition-sized EV SUV is an electric car built on a new platform that will come out in 2025. This platform will also be used for the next generation of electric full-size pickup trucks after the current F-150 Lightning EV. They will also have brand-new, state-of-the-art electricity systems. “Project T3” refers to the second generation of electric pickup trucks. These trucks, like SUVs, are made to be much simpler in terms of hardware while having the most up-to-date software and technology and taking advantage of cheaper and better batteries when they become available.

Bullet Train for Me

Ford CEO Jim Farley says the new SUV with room for seven people is like a “personalised bullet train.” The three-row Ford is advertised as a low-cost car that is longer, sleeker, and quieter and has excellent dimensions and space inside. It will go up against the electric Cadillac Escalade IQ, just released. He calls the new electric truck a “Millennium Falcon with a back porch.” Both are thought to be unique and different.

Doug Field, president of Ford’s advanced product development and technology business, said, “We could have turned an Expedition into an EV, but it wouldn’t have made for an excellent EV or a perfect Expedition.” For 300 miles of highway range, you would need a big, pricey 140 kW battery. Field showed investors at a Capital Markets event in Dearborn how the famous car company is changing its business with its Ford+ growth strategy, a year old. Because of this, the answer would be less good.

There is a race to make batteries smaller.

Field says that the industry is in a small arms race to add bigger batteries to EVs and turn them into ICE cars. Farley needs help understanding. The CEO needs to understand why people care so much about battery size. Ford wants the next wave of electric vehicles to have the most miniature batteries possible between 300 and 350 miles.

The giant three-row SUV must be more efficient since the battery is probably only 100 kW and is smaller. As the company uses computer models to get every bit of power out of the car, it starts with tires that have low resistance. Field says that the team also dropped the riding height, cut a lot of weight, and paid a lot of attention to aerodynamics.

Field says it is a unique product different from everything else on the market. It is a three-row family car with a range of 350 miles and can still go 300 miles at 70 mph. It costs several hundred dollars less and has a battery that is a third smaller and lighter. Ford will use the same limited battery resources to make three cars instead of two. The new big EV SUV can drive 150 miles per charge and charge in less than 10 minutes.

Ford’s first electric cars

Doug Field, Ford’s chief advanced product development and technology officer, said that the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning were part of a successful first group of electric cars. But for the second generation, Ford is putting most of its money into areas where it is sure to do well, like full-size pickups and large SUVs, where competitors like Tesla and BYD do not fight. The higher profit margins of the bigger EVs will make up for the fact that they will have to fight with cheaper cars like the two-row Mach-E SUV in terms of price.

When overcapacity and price issues became apparent, Farley says Ford began planning the next generation of automobiles. Ford’s CEO has often said that the company wants to avoid entering commoditized industries like two-row SUVs, where 200 brands fight in a crowded market.

“We spent money to get slivers of share so everyone would be happy.” But, as Farley says, “This is a new era.” Ford’s latest game uses new tools. He is focusing on trucks, large SUVs, and commercial cars. “The days of Ford being all things to all people are over,” the corporation declared. Ford wants to make direct sales, which will take less work. Chief Financial Officer John Lawler thinks it could be better for a business to try to please every customer.

Internal combustion engine cars and trucks aren’t going away any time soon.

Ford split into three global companies a year ago to move the company in a new direction and make it more efficient: Ford Blue for internal combustion engines (ICE), Ford Model E for electric cars, and Ford Pro for commercial vehicles and services.

It also said that although Ford is pushing for electric cars, it will keep users who want vehicles with internal combustion engines. Kumar Malhotra, president of Ford Blue, a business that develops, makes, and sells conventional cars with internal combustion engines, including hybrids, says that Towers will buy autos with these engines, including combinations. He thinks ICE sales will continue in North America for the next ten years.

And things will keep getting better. All next-generation cars with BlueCruise, which will be in 500,000 vehicles by 2024, can finally drive themselves at level 3.
