A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign says that Ford is recalling more than 125,000 pickup trucks and SUVs because they could catch fire. In July 2022, a similar recall effort was started for 100,000 Ford Escape, Ford Maverick, and Lincoln Corsair vehicles with a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain made between 2020 and 2023. According to the recall, if the engine fails, motor oil and petrol vapour could get into the engine compartment and build up near hot ignition sources, like the exhaust, which could start a fire. Ford says it knows thrice when cars caught fire after the 2022 recall. This shows that the company’s first fix did not work. Ford says that the new spot is being worked on right now. Customers are told to “park and turn off the engine as soon as possible if they hear strange noises coming from the engine, notice a drop in power, or see smoke.” If this recall might touch your car, visit the NHTSA website and enter your VIN. Ford plans to send notices to owners on June 12; when a fix is ready, they will send another warning.
