From 2027 onward, Honda will produce a new hybrid V-6 engine to power mid-size cars like the Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline. The future engine is expected to use less gas than current gas-only models by more than 30%. Honda says the hybrid system, which can include up to three electric motors, could boost the car’s top speed by more than 10%. Honda Accord, Civic, and CR-V fans who want a hybrid engine may be able to get one. But for the time being, anyone who wants to buy one of the brand’s bigger cars will have to settle for a V-6 engine that isn’t hybrid and uses a lot more gas. More details about the next version of Honda’s mid-size cars have been released. This includes the Ridgeline pickup, the Odyssey minivan, and the Pilot SUV. Honda announced earlier this year that it would develop a new hybrid engine specifically for heavy trucks in North America. We now know more about the power plant described above. It will make its debut in 2027 on one of the three vehicles listed above. Honda says the next hybrid system will feature a V-6 engine (size unknown) and up to three electric motors. The third motor will power the back axle on all-wheel-drive models. The brand-new e-motors will, of course, come with an unknown battery pack. Honda got our attention when it said that its future V-6 hybrid system will use more than 30% less gas than its gas-powered predecessors. There are still many technical details we don’t know. Also, Honda wants to cut acceleration times by more than 10%, so it doesn’t look like speed will have to be sacrificed to reach that goal. The last Pilot we tested had a 285-hp V-6 engine and all-wheel drive. This is just a guess, but the hybrid version of that car should get about 26 mpg on average and can hit 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. How is Honda going to handle everything? The newly discovered battery aid is said to improve the performance of electric motors and gas engines, according to the company. The Pilot and two-row Passport have almost brand-new frames and a more current version of the same V-6 engine. On the other hand, the Odyssey and Ridgeline share an old frame and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that is just as old. Because of this, we know that one of the four models will be the first to get the hybrid V-6, but we don’t know which model. Honda has already said it plans to bring 13 new hybrid cars to markets worldwide over the next 4 years. We expect the Acura MDX to follow suit, finally.
