Here's Our First Look At The Nissan Z Nismo's New Manual Transmission

Earlier this year, Nissan said it would give the Z NISMO a manual transmission. The regular Z has had a stick shift option since the 2023 model year, but the NISMO version, tuned for the track, came only with a nine-speed automatic. Nissan says that the NISMO MT will be fully revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2026. This will be our first chance to see the manual gear lever in the NISMO’s cabin.

Right now, there isn’t much information available, but the gearbox is the same six-speed as the regular Z. It was probably tweaked a bit to handle the extra 20 horsepower and 34 pound-feet of torque. Other than that, the house looks the same, and we don’t expect any major changes to the exterior. The NISMO’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine, which makes 420 horsepower and 384 pound-feet, along with its usual limited-slip differential, stronger suspension, and more powerful brakes, will remain unchanged.

Nissan says the Z, known as the Fairlady Z in Japan, will be redesigned to focus on “increasing aerodynamic performance” before it goes on sale there next summer. But the only picture of the NISMO that exists looks a lot like the current model, so only the non-NISMO trims may have had styling changes. For the 2027 model year, the manual transmission is scheduled to arrive in the United States, and sales will likely start at the end of 2026.

Nissan will also show a new NISMO concept car at the Tokyo Auto Salon, along with the Z NISMO with a stick shift. Right now, no other information is available so it could be anything from a racecar to NISMO-branded sneakers. Nissan will also showcase the X-Trail Rock Creek Multibed Wildplay. The Rogue is called “X-Trail” in Japan, and the X-Trail is an updated version of the Rogue that can go anywhere. When the Tokyo Auto Salon starts on January 9, there will be more information about Nissan’s cars.
