However, Honda and Acura steer clear of openly admitting that the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX are essentially GM mid-size electric SUVs underneath, simply dressed in more refined styling. Although they are badge-engineered, they are essentially the same as the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevy Blazer EV. Despite launching later and being offered through a more limited dealer network, Honda’s versions have outsold the GM models they’re based on.

The Q2 statistics show the whole story. So far this year, Honda dealers have sold over 16,000 units of the Prologue.  On the other hand, Chevy has only sold about 13,000 Blazer EVs. It’s essential to note that Chevrolet has approximately 3,000 stores in the US, whereas Honda has around 1,100. In 2025, that translates to each Honda dealership selling over 15 Prologues on average, while each Chevrolet dealership sold fewer than 4.5 Blazer EVs.

Honda Sells More Electric SUVs Than General Motors

Acura sold 10,335 ZDXs and 9,317 Lyris this year, both of which are high-end cars. The ZDX sold more than three times as many units as the (soon-to-be-retired) TLX sedan and twice as many as the Integra, but it was only the third-best-selling Acura model in Q2. How does the number of Acura dealerships compare to the number of Cadillac dealerships, but we didn’t do the math?

GM actually sells more Ultium-powered cars than the numbers above indicate. Beyond the Blazer EV and Lyriq, GM’s electric lineup also includes the Cadillac Escalade iQ (3,766 units sold), Optiq (4,940), Vistiq (1,745), and the Chevrolet Equinox EV, which stands out as the top seller with 27,749 units sold.

The cars (GMC Sierra EV, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and GMC Hummer EV) are another thing. The main point is that GM sells a lot more Ultium EVs than Honda does in countries where their products compete.

General Motors also has several positive developments in this segment. Prologue is currently in first place, but Blazer EV is still selling a lot more than it needs to in 2024. In fact, the Lyriq is the only GM electric vehicle type whose sales have gone down since last year. In 2025, Cadillac sold 50% more electric cars overall.
