Automotive News says the 750S, a new model from McLaren, will replace the 720S. The rumor says that the 750S would have 30 more horsepower than the 720S and be “a little bit more aggressive.” The McLaren 750S 2024 will come out later this year with a starting price of about $340K and new design features inside and out. We knew the McLaren 720S would be replaced when it was finally taken off the market at the end of last year, but we didn’t know what it would be like. Automotive News says this is no longer the case because McLaren wants to call the car replacing the 720 with the 750S. A more robust V-8 engine and better handling Unnamed insiders say that the base and engine of the 750S will be the same as those of its predecessor. Conversely, there will be numerous enhancements in the next-generation model. For example, the 750S will still have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine, but with some changes, the power will go from 710 hp to 740 hp. The 720S was already a great track car we saw for ourselves at our Lightning Lap event in 2018. Still, it wasn’t nearly as exciting as the McLaren 765LT we drove. The 750S is expected to be between the 720S and the 765LT in terms of performance. It should handle better than the 720S but not as violently as the 765LT. Both inside and outside changes Even though the AN report shows a car that will borrow from newer McLaren cars while still looking like the car it will replace, we still don’t know what the outside of the 750S will look like. Similar to the 765LT, the front bumper could be changed, the side air intakes could be made more prominent, and the active rear wing could be made longer. The bundle will have new colors and different wheel styles for sure. Most likely, the interior of the 750S will be inspired by the futuristic Elva and even the soon-to-be-released McLaren Artura plug-in hybrid. Sources say that the 750S’s gauge cluster will be similar to those of the other two cars, with switches for changing drive modes and other features now on the bezel of the group. This fall, you’ll be able to buy the Coupe and the Spider. Nicolas Brown, the president of McLaren Americas, told AN earlier this year that the new car was already sold out “until 2024,” even before we knew what the 720S’ replacement would be called. The news from today also points to what most of us already think: AN’s source says that the 750S will be very expensive, 10% more than its predecessor. Since the 2023 720S coupe started at $310,500, it’s safe to assume that the 750S coupe will cost at least $340K. Unlike previous McLaren debuts, the 750S is likely to be offered as both a coupe and a spider convertible. Later this month, there will be a formal announcement, and the movie will start to be made in September. We have yet to hear from a McLaren representative that the next model will be called the 750S.
