Autocar says that the Volkswagen ID.4 will get a new look for a new generation starting with the 2026 model year. A report from the UK states that Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, described the revamped compact electric SUV as “a significant advancement.” The source said that after the repairs, VW might choose to call the car the Electric Tiguan instead of ID.4. The modern Volkswagen ID.4 model is showing signs of wear and tear, even though it is useful, comfortable, and doesn’t cost much to begin with. A recent article in Autocar says that the ID.4 will be getting a big facelift. This means that the 2026 model could be the start of a new age. The CEO of Volkswagen’s passenger car business, Thomas Schäfer, told Autocar that the new ID.4 is “really beautiful.” Schäfer says that the changes will make the ID.4 look more like the upcoming ID.1 and ID.2, which are both going to Europe. “I heard him mention that they believed it was important for the vehicle to align with the new design language moving forward, as it remains their highest-selling electric model.” Schäfer also talked about how much work went into remaking the small electric SUV. “The ID.4 will be built from scratch.” “It will be a huge step up—a completely different car,” he told me. “It’s also to stay competitive for a while: let’s bring a completely new one.” According to Autocar, the SUV may no longer carry the ID.4 name. Instead, it might be called the Electric Tiguan, which suggests that the changes may be more than just the bodywork. The name change is not completely surprising, but it has not been confirmed. Schäfer told Autocar in the past that the company would be stupid not to make money off of its famous names. “We’ve decided to stick with tried-and-true, money-making brands like Tiguan and Golf that have been good to us for a long time and in which we’ve put a lot of money.” Why would you let them go? Schäfer asked the store about it.
