The 2027 Ram Power Wagon has a Cummins diesel engine for the first time. Ram’s inline-six diesel engine has 6.7 liters. It gives you 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. When the new Power Wagon goes on sale in the second half of 2026, the gasoline version will cost $88,470. Ram still hasn’t made its heavy-duty off-road pickup truck available with a diesel engine for some reason. For the 2027 model year, the Power Wagon is finally competitive with similar trucks from other brands by adding an oil-burning engine choice. The Cummins generates 1,075 pound-feet of torque, which is better than Ford’s Power Stroke (1,050) and GM’s Duramax (975). Ram can now show off its higher power in this class. Why did it take so long to put a diesel engine in a Power Wagon, which has been on the market since 2005? As customer demand grew, someone at Ram finally agreed to remove the front-mounted winch. Engineers could then make space for the turbo-diesel’s intercooler once that problem was resolved. Along with the truck’s gas-powered 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, which has 405 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, there is now a Cummins 6.7-liter straight-six with 430 horsepower and the aforementioned huge torque figure. Four-wheel drive, a Cummins engine, a 3.42 rear axle ratio, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox come standard on the Power Wagon. With the recently announced fifth-wheel gooseneck hitch, Ram says this setup can tow up to 20,000 pounds. The HD off-roader now has a self-leveling rear suspension. Like before, it rides on 35-inch all-terrain tires with knobs. The Power Wagon’s ground clearance is 13.2 inches, but if that’s not enough, steel skid plates protect its belly. Other important things about the car are that the front and back differentials lock electrically, and the front anti-roll bar separates to make the car more flexible. The Power Wagon’s cabin is still big, and the usual feature is a heated front bench seat. Of course, customers can ask for a pair of leather-wrapped buckets with heated and cooled pillows. Ram offers a variety of interior options for its vehicles. These include a larger 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 tablet, a passenger-side display, extra leather surfaces, and a 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. This year, retailers will be able to get the new Ram Power Wagon with a Cummins engine. The diesel Power Wagon will cost $4,500 more than the current Hemi-powered version, starting at $88,470. The prices for the rest of the heavy-duty range have not been announced yet.
