• Mazda showed off the first pictures of its new EZ-60 electric SUV, which will be sold in China as part of a partnership with Changan.
  • The EZ-60 features the same sleek and stylish design as the EZ-6 sedan, which was the first electric vehicle introduced through the Mazda-Changan collaboration last year.
  • Similar to the EZ-6, the EZ-60 will be derived from an existing Changan model—most likely the Deepal S07—which comes with both electric and range-extender plug-in hybrid powertrain options.

Mazda introduced the MX-30 as its first electric vehicle (EV) in the United States. It came out for the 2022 model year and wasn’t competitive at all. The MX-30 was exclusively available for purchase in California. Its back seats were too small, and it could only go 100 miles on a single charge. A joint effort between Mazda and Changan helped EVs move forward in the Chinese market, even though the MX-30 only lasted a year in the US. As of today, Mazda released the first pictures of the new EZ-60 electric SUV. It will make its official debut at the Shanghai car show later this month.

Mazda’s Stylish EZ-60 SUV Is Set To Compete With The Tesla Model Y In The Chinese Market

The EZ-60 succeeds the EZ-6, a model introduced last year and known in Europe as the 6e. Its design strongly mirrors the streamlined aesthetic of the Arata concept, which was revealed at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. From the squinting headlights, a lit LED strip sticks out and forms the shape of the Mazda’s signature trapezoidal grille. There is also a small duct on top of the grille trim that is meant to move air under a wing that is built into the hood.

A beltline with sharp lines that curve breaks up the elegant chassis. The EZ-60 has a deep duct cut into the D-pillar that sweeps forward like the Mazda 3 hatchback. Instead of side view mirrors, cameras are used to save drag and increase range. We first saw the new Mazda logo last year, and it appears on the EZ-60 as well. There is a big difference in how sharp it looks now.

The EZ-60, like the EZ-6, will be very similar to a modern Changan product, even though we don’t know anything about its powertrain yet. The EZ-60 SUV is expected to be based on the Deepal S07, an electric vehicle (EV) that features a plug-in hybrid motor intended to enhance its driving range.

More information about the EZ-60 is expected to be unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, which starts on April 23.
