The Mercedes-Benz GLE class will get a new look and a hybrid powertrain with 48 volts in 2024. The new plug-in hybrid GLE400e is also in the lineup. It has 381 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. The Mercedes-AMG GLE class will get similar changes in 2024, such as new features and a new look. The Mercedes-Benz GLE and AMG GLE lines are ready for a mid-cycle update in 2024. This will include significant changes to the powertrain and the addition of a new hybrid model. Mercedes also makes changes to the interior and exterior design and adds new standard and optional features to the AMG-tuned versions. All vehicles have been made electric; most have a starter generator and a 48-volt hybrid system that work together. The four-cylinder GLE350 still makes 255 horsepower, and the eight-cylinder AMG GLE63 S still makes 603 horsepower. The AMG GLE53 also gets a bigger turbocharger and new software that increases peak torque from 384 to 413 pound-feet. This should cut its time to 60 mph by a few tenths (a ’21 GLE53 coupe we tested got there in 4.7 seconds). The GLE400e 4Matic plug-in hybrid is a new addition to the GLE-class lineup. It has a 134-hp electric motor and a standard turbo-four gas engine that work together to total 381 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive GLE400e can be equipped with a 60 kW fast charger instead of the usual 11.0 kW on-board charger. The new model has only had minor changes to its appearance. A few chrome inserts were added up front to make the car stand out more on the road, and the headlights and taillights were changed. Mercedes says that the front of the AMG GLE53 has been updated with side air intakes that have a “jet-wing shape” and are more angular. Instead of the usual Benz logo, which is seen on the hood, there is an AMG logo. New paint colors include Twilight Blue Metallic and Manufaktur Alpine Grey, and the AMG lineup now has new upholstery options. The GLE63 S also has brand-new 22-inch forged wheels that come standard on the coupe body style and are an option on the square back body style. Also, the AMG models now come with new features that were not there before. In 2024, it will be standard to have an AMG Performance exhaust system, MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation, a memory package, a parking assistance package, front seats that heat and cool, and an AMG Performance steering wheel. To make the most of the GLC’s off-road skills, a new off-road kit will be added to the GLE580. The change makes the SUV 1.2 inches higher off the ground and protects the undercarriage. The interface now has an “Off-Road” button that lets you see a virtual view underneath the front of the car, including the front wheels and steering angle. Soon, drivers will be able to enter the dimensions of their trailers into the system and save them. When a trailer is attached, a new trailer helper controls the steering angle and speed to make it easier for the driver to turn around up to 90 degrees. The Benz-branded GLE class and its AMG counterparts should be on sale in 2023, but Mercedes has yet to say how much they would cost.
