Mercedes-Benz is set to add a new cabriolet model to the G-Class lineup as planned. Mercedes has promised that the open-top G will be sold in almost every market it serves, including the US. The 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet was the most recent soft-top Geländewagen before the latest model. There is a long history of G-wagens doing great things off-road and in the military, but most of the cars on the market today are used for traveling in Los Angeles. Mercedes has officially stated that the G-class lineup will grow to include a cabriolet version. This will give wealthy owners the option to keep driving the same way they were, but in a convertible. Along with the news, the car company put out a teaser image. The new car looks like it has the roof of an old Landaulet, even though it is mostly dark. In this way, Mercedes stopped making a softtop version of the Geländewagen in 2018, the same year it stopped making the first G. The 2018 model was much harder to get, even though the company that made it said that the new cabriolet would be sold in “almost every market in the world, including the U.S.” However, this is because the company opted to produce the G650 Landaulet, a Maybach version of the G-Class cabriolet, rather than a standard production car. There were only 99 units built, and although the price was never disclosed, we estimated it to be around $550,000 at the time. Mercedes hasn’t said when the new cabriolet type will be available, but since the G’s body was updated for 2025, it wouldn’t be a surprise if it came out in 2026.
