The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series is a very high-end version of the Mercedes-AMG SL63 roadster. It is Mercedes-Benz‘s first two-seater car. The Maybach makeover includes changes to the outside style, unique paint jobs, and improvements to the inside. The AMG SL63 still has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and all-wheel drive, but the company that makes the roadster says it is quieter and more comfortable to ride. The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 starts at $226,050. Mercedes has formally announced the price of the most expensive version of the Mercedes-AMG SL63 roadster. This comes more than a year after the Maybach SL680 Monogram Series made its debut at Monterey Car Week. Play the drums. The SL680 has a starting price of $226,050. Maybach is a subbrand of Mercedes-Benz that means more than just cars. It’s more luxurious than even Mercedes’ base models, with more power, presence, status, and comfort. Maybach currently offers size-large chauffeur-ready cars, such as personalized versions of the S-class sedan, the GLS SUV, and the EQS electric SUV. Think about Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Maybach’s newest model, the 2026 SL680 Monogram Series, is a very high-end copy of the Mercedes-AMG SL63 sports car with two seats. It’s not as big, though. You will sit in the passenger seat next to the driver if you want to be taken around in this car. Not cool! Maybach showcased the new soft-top roadster during Monterey Car Week, just 36 hours before the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This was the perfect opportunity to showcase a car for the wealthiest individuals in the car market. It will come to the US in the summer of 2025 as a 2026 model. The chief design officer for Maybach, Gorden Wagener, says the goal is the same as for all Maybach models: to make the most luxurious and elegant form of the standard Mercedes that it is based on. The inside and outside of the AMG SL need to be changed in order to reach this goal. The Maybach model has a new grille, unique 21-inch Maybach wheels, different front and rear bumper covers, and gold trim around the windshield and on the sides of the rockers. Alongside the upright Mercedes three-pointed star hood ornament, the hood now includes a metal spear running down its center. There are small, delicate fairings on the hard tonneau cover behind the front seats that look like the thin headrests on race cars from the 1950s. The two most obvious changes to the exterior are the softtop and the paint job, which is exclusive to the Maybach. Wagener states that for its first model year, the Maybach SL will be available in just two color options: White Ambience (bright white) and Red Ambience (metallic red). The inside of both is made of white leather, and the hood is black. The one-of-a-kind convertible top features the Maybach logo stamped dozens of times, creating a pattern reminiscent of a Louis Vuitton bag. This makes it look even more different from regular SLs. If that’s not enough, for an extra fee, the same design can be added to the hood as well. Maybach has extensively redesigned the SL63’s drivetrain, transforming it from a sporty 577-hp vehicle into a luxurious grand tourer. The company that made it says they returned the engine mounts, put in a new, quieter exhaust system to muffle the thunder of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, re-adjusted the suspension to make the ride better, and put a lot of soundproofing in the cabin to cut down on noise, vibration, and harshness. More padding was added to the seats to match their new Maybach stitch style. You can still get the AMG SL63 with all-wheel drive and an automatic engine with nine speeds. Benz says that the Maybach upgrades have added about 400 pounds to the weight of the regular SL63, but we don’t think buyers will notice. We won’t know how realistic this makeover is until about a year from now, when we sit behind the two-tone steering wheel in the expensive car. One thing is for sure, though: the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series roadster will cost a lot of money. The base price of a Mercedes-AMG SL63 is $188,050, so the Maybach model might cost more than $250,000. Prices will be made public when the car goes on sale. As a result, it will be truly unique.
