The EQ brand will temporarily cease production of cars in the United States. This wave of electric cars from Mercedes-Benz will no longer be sent to dealers in the US starting in September, the company told The Drive. Mercedes has no plans to increase sales anytime soon, but it will continue to produce EQ versions that will be sold in other countries, including the US. A company representative stated that dealers have been notified of a temporary suspension of all U.S. order banks for the EQS Sedan, EQS SUV, EQE Sedan, and EQE SUV have been temporarily suspended. However, vehicles scheduled for production before September 1 will still be delivered as planned. The encouraging news is that Mercedes-Benz intends to continue producing its EQ lineup in the United States without interruption. Since 2022, the EQS and EQE SUVs, along with the GLE and GLS models, have been built at the company’s plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Gasoline-powered versions of these vehicles remain available for purchase. A company employee explained that the Mercedes-Benz flexible production system allows them to adapt to shifts in market demand, as it can assemble electric, hybrid, and combustion-engine vehicles on the same production lines. They added that all models are still being produced for international markets. The allocation adjustment will not impact manufacturing operations in the United States, as the EQS Sedan and EQE Sedan are produced in Germany at the Sindelfingen and Bremen facilities, respectively. Additionally, this tragedy will not alter the company’s plans to electrify future projects. The next all-electric CLA is still expected to arrive in 2019, we’ve been told. EQ is the only group that has changed. The spokesperson stated that the all-electric CLA will be the first model built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) and is anticipated to reach U.S. dealerships in late 2025. At the IAA Mobility 2023, Mercedes-Benz also stated that two SUVs would be made based on this new architecture. In addition, the all-new electric GLC is set to make its debut at the IAA car show in Munich on September 7, 2025. While this lasts, people in the US can say goodbye to some of the company’s least interesting outer designs. The only thing that can save us is Mercedes Modular Architecture.
