Nissan Japan Makes The Rogue NISMO Sportier

Nissan, like other automakers, often makes special editions of popular cars in their home countries. Nissan unveiled a new NISMO X-Trail, known as the Rogue abroad.

The X-Trail NISMO adopts the familiar design language of modern NISMOs, highlighted by the brand’s trademark crimson accents that enhance its aggressive body kit. It comes with a larger front splitter and a revised rear diffuser, and Nissan states that these aerodynamic upgrades cut lift by 29% compared to the regular X-Trail.

Nissan optimized the chassis and tuned it for performance. The manufacturer notes that the most significant upgrade is the addition of new swing-valve dampers, designed to balance ride comfort with improved body roll control. Sportier editions use Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires on 20-inch wheels. More than three-quarters of an inch wider tires than prior X-Trail trim levels.

The X-Trail has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, but it’s configured differently from our Rogue. Nissan’s series-hybrid X-Trail has a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The engine generates wheel power rather than directly driving the wheels. The torque increases from 225 to 243 lb-ft, but the horsepower stays at 201, as in our version. NISMO’s powertrain was tweaked to boost rear axle power, according to Nissan.

One of our main issues with the Rogue is its driving, so we hope Nissan launches this new NISMO variant in the US. Starting in late September, the X-Trail NISMO will be sold solely in Japan.
