Due to its strange headlights and lack of an air-cooled engine, the 996-generation Porsche 911 has always been worth less. But, as a recent sale in the seven-figure range shows, these cars can still sell for a lot of money on the used market. Road & Track says that the car in question is a one-of-a-kind factory specially made by Porsche Classic and the Porsche Club of America working together. The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe has a 996 GT3 engine and a unique, one-of-a-kind look. The 2022 tribute model had an 18-inch Fuchs spoiler, a double bubble roof, and 18-inch Fuchs wheels. It has a racing stripe and is painted in a colour we like, Sport Grey Metallic. It was covered in a Pepita design of black and slate grey leather. What used to be a simple 911 Carrerra has been considerably boosted by the GT3 engine. It has an exciting top speed of 8,000 rpm and 381 horsepower. Because the suspension and brakes from the GT3 were also put in, the car handles like a GT3. The website for sale says that the car sold at the Porsche 75th Anniversary sale in Atlanta over the weekend for a massive $1.325 million. So, it’s the most expensive 996 that has ever been sold. Most people think the 996 is the least costly of the older 911s. Rare Porsches, on the other hand, often sell for more than they are worth. A great example is the Sally Carrera model, made as a salute to Pixar’s Cars and will sell for $3.6 million in 2022. A 1964 Porsche 904 GTS sold for $2.54 million over the weekend, which shows how vital race history is. The 996 might not be the most-wanted 911 ever. But now that it has reached that point on the depreciation curve, prices will almost certainly increase as it becomes a standard again. Collectors may look at the model more as the car that came before the current 911 with a water-cooled engine than as the end of the air-cooled era.
