Porsche Fixed Up A Beautiful First-Generation Cayenne GTS Manual

Soon after the turn of the century, Porsche’s first-generation Cayenne SUV debuted alongside the brand’s famous sports cars, a move some fans found disrespectful. Naturally, it became Porsche’s best-selling model right away, and it led to the creation of many more, such as the 405-hp GTS, which was placed between the 500-hp twin-turbo Cayenne Turbo and the 385-hp Cayenne S. The first model GTS had a strong V-8 engine, three pedals, and a six-speed stick shift. A 2009 Cayenne GTS manual has just been brought back to almost-new state by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (special request) program.

The American businessman in this shot owns this Cayenne. He took his first SUV, which had about 50,000 kilometers on it, to Porsche’s Factory Re-Commission team. The team had only ever worked on old sports cars or very rare machines like Carrera GTs. For whatever reason, they stayed objective and made the 2009 Cayenne GTS a great car. The owner said his idea came from the limited-edition Porsche 911 Spirit 70, a tribute to the 1970s. He also asked the Sonderwunsch crew to keep the SUV’s trailer hitch, which is important for his plan to pull an Airstream trailer across the desert near Dubai.

The German carmaker showed off the fully restored car at the Icons of Porsche event in the Middle East over the weekend. The restored GTS is painted in a paint-to-sample color called Blackolive, which pairs well with the big all-terrain tires wrapped around black wheels. The “Leather to Sample” option gives the interior a unique English green color on most surfaces. However, our favorite part is the black-and-olive Pasha pattern, which you can see on the seat covers and in the glovebox.

People may not pay as much attention to the first-generation Cayenne as they do to other Porsche sports cars, but it is still an important car in the company’s past. We’re also glad that it comes with a guidebook in case someone wants to spend the money to fix one up.
