Porsche said today at a press event that it is developing an electric Cayenne. The Cayenne EV, which should be built on the PPE platform, will come out in 2025 after the electric 718 sports cars. With this year’s update to the gas-powered Cayenne, there will be three plug-in hybrid models with longer all-electric ranges. At a press conference this morning, Porsche discussed its plans for its next cars, but they won’t be sports cars. The focus of Porsche’s announcement, which confirms for the first time that there will be an electric Cayenne below the new flagship electric SUV that the company talked about last year, is on its efforts to keep improving its lineup of crossovers. An Increasing Number of Electric Products The Cayenne EV, discussed since 2021, didn’t get any new information, but the electric crossover is expected to use the same PPE platform as the upcoming Macan EV. Porsche will keep selling the Cayenne with an internal combustion engine, bringing a “new version of the third generation this year.” This update will add three plug-in hybrid cars that can go farther on electric power. Porsche has shared a few more details about its flagship SUV that runs on electricity. Recently, Porsche said it would be powered by SSP Sport, a version of the Scalable Systems Platform made by the Volkswagen Group. At first, the car company said it would use technology created for the Mission R concept for 2021. Porsche says the electric car will have “excellent performance” and “functions that make driving itself.” What was in store for us on the 718? Porsche also said it will send out electric Macans in 2024, followed by electric 718 sports cars the next year. At first, it will be sold alongside the gas-powered Boxster and Cayman, but Porsche says that “in the medium future,” it will only be sold as an electric vehicle. In a meeting with the media, the company’s CEO, Oliver Blume, said that the Macan and Cayenne would only be made two years after the gas-powered models, depending on the region and local needs. He was sure that the electric 718 would be a great car in terms of being sporty, fun to drive, and quick. Lastly, Porsche is putting more money into its Sonderwunsch program, which makes unique cars for the brand’s wealthiest and luckiest customers. Future Porsche cars are likely to have more unique looks, like the 911 Historic Club Coupe or the 911 GT3, which looks like it came from Le Mans.
