• People may be very angry about Porsche‘s newest Sonderwunsch idea.
  • The “Special Wishes” team restored the 2005 Carrera GT to as good as new and redesigned it to look like the Porsche 917 short-tail race car that won Le Mans in 1970.
  • At first, the Carrera GT was silver, but now most of the inside and outside has been painted red.

Porsche's Sonderwunsch Team Brought This 2005 Carrera GT Back To A Brand-New State

This one is too bold to be average, so you’ll probably love or hate it. Porsche’s newest Sonderwunsch project is a Carrera GT repainted in Guards Red.

Victor Gómez, who is from Puerto Rico and owns a Carrera GT, requested that Porsche make numerous changes to his 20-year-old car. First, Gómez asked for his car to be painted in a style like the short-tail Porsche 917 that won Le Mans in 1970, even though the 2005 Carrera GT was finished in silver to begin with.

The “Salzburg Design” is the name of the outside, which has the number 23 on it. The exterior is painted Guards Red and White, and the mirrors, roof panels, and A- and B-pillars have matte black accents. The paint was inspired by the 917 race car and modified to fit the Carrera GT’s body. The inside also has a red-forward pattern. Inside, most of it is red Alcantara, and matte black replaces white as the second color.

Porsche’s factory re-commissioning includes more than just a new upholstery and paint job. Before redoing the car, Porsche’s staff disassembles the vehicle and rebuilds the engine from scratch while recoating the carbon parts.

Because of this, the car looks like it was just made, even though it’s been around for 20 years. Porsche doesn’t say how much that kind of service costs, but it must be expensive since the company is ready to pay over $40,000 for special paint.
