Prior To The SUV’s Release, Porsche Showcased The Cayenne EV At A Prominent Hill Climb Event.

Porsche has been working hard on an electric version of its famous Cayenne SUV. The Cayenne Electric is set to launch in 2026 and will initially be offered alongside the gasoline-powered version. Porsche has given the public its first official look at the Cayenne EV. The company took the electric SUV to England’s famous Shelsley Walsh hill climb and shared a set of photos showing it in camouflage.

Gabriela Jílková, a Porsche Formula E test driver, took part in the Shelsley Walsh hill climb in a prototype Cayenne Electric. The event has been going on since 1905.  When Porsche referred to the prototype as “near-production,” they meant that the skin was nearly complete. With headlights that are placed high and a big grille in the lower bumper, the Cayenne Electric looks like any other Porsche. The spherical body ends with a slight dip in the roofline and big, round headlights.

The company says that Jílková beat the old record time for an SUV by more than four seconds on her first go up the hill. They also told us important things about the Cayenne Electric that made it easy to drive up the hill. Porsche Active Ride is the initial feature to be launched in the lineup.

It is the company’s new suspension technology that keeps the body level while braking, turning, and accelerating. Porsche claims that the Cayenne Electric, equipped with summer tires, completed the first 180 feet in 1.94 seconds, a time typically reserved for single-seat race cars with wet tires at the event.   The business also talks about a strong engine.

Richard Hammond, who used to host Top Gear and The Grand Tour, used the Cayenne Electric to pull a 100-year-old Lagonda for a movie project about the hill climb. Porsche states that the electric vehicle can tow up to 7,716 pounds.  Porsche announced that both the standard Cayenne—which offers gas-only and hybrid engine options—and the Cayenne Electric will continue to be sold “well into the next decade.” The full launch of the Cayenne Electric is anticipated to occur either later this year or early next year.
