Ram's CEO Stated That Dakota Will Be The Name Of The Company's Next Mid-Size Vehicle

Hey everyone, the secret has been revealed. When Ram returns to the mid-size truck market it left in 2011, the new pickup will be known by a familiar name. Ram’s CEO, Tim Kuniskis, announced at a press meeting today that the Dakota will be the name of the company’s next mid-size vehicle.

This is the most recent news before the official debut of the mid-size truck, so anyone who watches Ram or knows a lot about pickups won’t be surprised. Ram’s Dakota is planned to start production at the company’s Belvidere, Illinois, site in 2027, but the exact date isn’t yet known. Along with its body-on-frame design, the truck will offer a variety of powertrains, including a conventional gas engine and a plug-in hybrid system.

Kuniskis not only revealed the name of the company’s next mid-size vehicle, but also suggested that it would cost around $40,000. Ram’s entry will be a little more expensive than the basic trucks in that market group, which now start at about $35,000 for models like the Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Tacoma. But since new-car prices usually go up each year, this gap will likely shrink before the 2028 Ram Dakota comes out.
