• Reuters says that Ferrari is delaying the release of its second all-electric car.
  • A source who did not want to be named told the publication that there is now a “zero” market for high-performance electric cars.
  • Ferrari’s second model is not expected to be released until 2028, but the company plans to unveil its first electric car next spring.

It’s been pushed back again for Ferrari’s second electric vehicle. This comes after the first one’s release was pushed back from October to the spring of next year. According to Reuters, the Italian automaker is postponing the car’s launch from 2026 to no earlier than 2028.

Report: It Appears That Ferrari Is Postponing The Development Of Its Second Electric Vehicle

Reuters sources say the problem is that Ferrari’s customers are “zero” interested in high-performance electric cars. One source told the news outlet, “There is no real, long-term demand for an electric sports car.”

Reuters reports that Ferrari’s second electric vehicle will be a model produced in larger quantities, while the first will be a limited-edition model. The main reason behind Ferrari’s delay is the limited real-world demand for the vehicle. However, the extra time will enable the company to develop its own EV technology, thereby attracting buyers.

Ferrari is also struggling to convince affluent buyers that the added cost of its electric vehicle is justified. Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll said that sports car enthusiasts primarily desire the “sounds and smells” that come with traditional models. That’s why the company put off releasing its first electric car last year. Maserati had a similar problem when it got rid of the electric MC20 Folgore model five years after it first came out because of “a perceived lack of commercial interest.”
