Since Tesla’s recent price reductions have resulted in longer customer delivery delays, a local politician has called for the corporation to increase production at its German manufacturing. Tesla’s website says that German customers will now get the base Model Y in February or March instead of January or March like they did before the 17% price cut last week. The website says that the Long Range and Performance vehicles, whose prices have decreased by 4% and 1%, will be delivered between January and March. The state’s economy minister says that the Tesla factory in Gruenheide, near Berlin, should make more cars, so customers don’t have to wait as long. This was stated by Joerg Steinbach, the Minister of the Economy for the state of Brandenburg, on Thursday during a discussion on the industrial future of eastern Germany that was hosted by the German union IG Metall. A price war between Tesla and its competitors was initiated earlier this month after the company lowered the prices of its electric automobiles in both Europe and the United States. Even though other companies in the vicinity were having problems filling jobs, according to Steinbach, Tesla is hiring between 200 and 300 people per week for the Gruenheide facility. Currently, there are approximately 9,000 people employed at the factory. As a result of the automaker’s efforts to produce more automobiles, IG Metall stated at a recent conference that workers have been grumbling about working long hours and having to perform several shifts on the weekends. By the end of December, Tesla had reached its production goal of 3,000 vehicles per week, which was over two months behind schedule. Gruenheide is responsible for producing the Model Y, which is available for purchase in Europe.
