• The Suzuki Samurai was a tiny SUV with mountain goat-like off-road abilities.
  • This model is equipped with a Swift GT engine to provide additional power.
  • The samurai’s contemporary Jimny is unavailable in the US, but this well-kept original is.
The 1987 Suzuki Samurai Feels Like A Baby-G Wagon

Suzuki continues to produce motorcycles and outboard motors, but it no longer manufactures cars. Although it never led the US market, the business made some fun and affordable products, like fuel-efficient buzz bombs. Mexico sells Suzuki’s Swift hatchback and Jimny off-roader.

Bring a Trailer is selling this 1987 Jimny predecessor hardtop. The Samurai’s boxy, utilitarian design has been compared to a small Mercedes G-wagen. A smaller Jeep Wrangler. Suzuki still produces motorcycles and outboard motors, but it has ceased making cars.

The original Samurai’s 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine lacked speed. Importantly, it sports a 100-horsepower 1.6-liter engine with double overhead cams and 16 valves. With a five-speed manual, that’s enough to get to the trailhead in a fair time, and the increased torque should keep this samurai from disrupting traffic.

Due to its short wheelbase and actual SUV nature, the samurai had a significantly higher rollover risk. It was not meant to be thrown into a corner like a Honda Civic.

This one has a winch, auxiliary LED lights, and robust bumpers. A reworked coil-spring suspension clears the bodywork, and 30-inch Falken Wildpeaks on 15-inch wheels are huge. It comes with a dual-range transfer case, front and rear locking differentials, and manually locking front hubs.

Being a Gimli son of Glòin off-road machine provides numerous travel benefits. Drive through clogged animal paths, take a tight way that larger cars cannot, and go where only side-by-sides go.

This Samurai is equipped with air conditioning, sound-dampening materials, and Swift GT bucket seats, offering improved comfort for outdoor adventures. Although the rear seats have been removed, only smaller passengers can fit in the back. More camping areas would also be ideal.

Who says you can’t appreciate nature without an F-150 Raptor? Although named after a powerful Japanese medieval warrior, this samurai walks quietly and leaves no mark. This is the greatest alternative if your Suzuki dealership doesn’t have a new Jimny.
