Mazda has released information about the 2025 CX-50, which will have a new hybrid engine, including its specs and price. The hybrid gets its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and three electric motors from the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. The EPA estimates that the CX-50’s hybrid system will achieve 38 mpg. The base Preferred grade costs $35,390. Right now, Mazda’s attempts to go electric are far behind those of many of its competitors. The company wants to add more electric vehicles to its lineup. Right now, the only ones available are the plug-in hybrid CX-70 and CX-90 mid-size SUVs. The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is one example of how it does this. Used Electricity Mazda first announced in 2021 that the CX-50 Hybrid would have a Toyota engine. This year, the CX-50 Hybrid hit the Chinese market for the first time, using technology from the RAV4 Hybrid. We now know that cars sold in the US will use the same technology. It has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder normally aspirated engine, a continuously variable automatic gearbox, a battery pack, and three electric motors. It needs all-wheel drive because an electric motor drives the back axle. Mazda says that the hybrid’s battery being placed below the back half of the floor made it possible to add more cargo room. The CX-50 Hybrid has the same amount of power as the RAV4 when using regular 87-octane fuel: 219 horsepower and 163 pound-feet of torque. The EPA thinks that the Mazda system will get a total of 38 mpg, which is much better than the overall mileage of both non-hybrid CX-50 models. The gas-only turbocharged CX-50 got 29 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. The extra cost of a mix The 2025 CX-50 comes in three trim models, and each one costs a little more than the one before it. It costs about $2,000 more than a non-hybrid car with the same level of equipment to buy the base Preferred trim level of the CX-50 Hybrid. The main difference between the $38,820 Premium trim and the non-hybrid model is that the Premium trim comes with an available red leather interior. A unique set of 19-inch wheels makes the Premium Plus stand out. It starts at $41,470. Mazda has announced the prices of the non-hybrid 2025 CX-50 models. All of them are the same as last year, except for the $39,420 turbo model. Mazda said that the 2025 CX-50 cars will start showing up in stores the following month, and hybrid types will come out closer to the end of the year.
