• Rivian’s first limited-edition models are the R1T and R1S California Dune Edition.
  • Their exteriors are coated in a tan paint finish, with the option to extend the same color to the 20-inch wheels, which are included as a standard feature in the All-Terrain package.
  • The lower part of the cabin is made of sandstone, and the top part is made of black mountains.

For the 2025 model year, the Rivian R1T truck and R1S SUV got a lot of improvements. These included a redesigned drive unit in the Tri-Motor and Quad-Motor powertrains, a new look on the outside, and lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry in the normal battery. Rivian’s newest effort to make the R1 pair better is the California Dune Edition, a one-of-a-kind version of the R1T and R1S with off-road equipment and a paint job that looks like it came from the desert. Rivian is putting out a limited-edition form of its R1 car line for the first time.

The 2025 Rivian R1T And R1S California Dune Editions Would Work Well In The Desert

It’s no surprise that California Dune is a brand-new paint color that sets the limited-edition model apart from regular Rivians. The beautiful dunes in Southern California gave the color its name. The cars also come with an external Darkout kit that makes the difference between the tan paint job and the badges stand out even more.

The California Dune Editions each have a Black Mountain top half and a Sandstone bottom half. To make the inside of the car even easier to clean, sandstone floor mats match the seats, center console, and door panels.

The California Dune Edition is based on the Tri-Motor technology found in the R1 models. This technology has three electric motors that work together to produce an amazing 850 horsepower and 1103 pound-feet of torque. So, the electric SUV and truck should be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. The Tri-Motor engine has a soft sand drive mode that fits the California Dune theme.

There is also an All-Terrain package that comes with the special Rivians. The kit costs around $3700 and comes with 20-inch wheels, a spare tire, and better body armor. There are two finishes for the wheels: a California Dune paint job that matches the rest of the body or a darker look. The Tri-Motor powertrain’s EPA-rated range drops from 371 miles to 329 miles when the All-Terrain package is added.

The California Dune versions include a few extra items. The black MAXTRAX grip boards on top of the roof rack have also turned darker. The R1T pickup truck now has an updated automatic tonneau cover for 2025.

Rivian said that the California Dune models were special versions, but he didn’t say how many would be made. The R1T California Dune Edition costs $99,900, and the R1S California Dune Edition costs $105,900.
