The company’s CEO says the next-generation Alfa Romeo Stelvio will be shown off this year and go on sale in 2026. The Stelvio will be succeeded by a next-generation Giulia, with both models continuing to be manufactured in Italy. Alfa Romeo also said that the Stelvio and Giulia would be able to have electric drivetrains. Alfa Romeo badly needs new metal to bring its lineup back to life. Soon, there will be new versions of both the Stelvio SUV and the Giulia car that have electric motors. But Alfa Romeo said earlier this year that it would use a “multi-energy approach,” which means that the two new models will not only be powered by electricity. Alfa Romeo has now said that both cars will come with a hybrid engine. The next-generation Stelvio will be the first to get this feature. Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, revealed the news on LinkedIn. Ficili took over the jobs after Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, left the company in October. Before, we knew that the old Stelvio and Giulia would be replaced by new models. The Stelvio came out in 2018, and the Giulia in 2017. Now, we know more about the cars that will come after them. Ficili says that the next-generation Stelvio will be the first to hit the road. It will be shown off this year and go on sale in 2026. The next version of Alfa Romeo’s sports sedan will come out in 2026, but the CEO said that Giulia would come out after that, but he didn’t say when. Ficili’s words earlier this year also make it sound like the Giulia could become a taller car that looks like an SUV. Ficili said that both the Stelvio and the Giulia will have a gas-electric hybrid engine. This confirms that Alfa Romeo has given up on its original plan to switch to all-electric cars by 2027. The new Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S are also built on the STLA Large base, which will be used to build both cars. Even though Ficili didn’t say which engine will power the internal combustion in this new hybrid system, we can guess. The Hurricane twin-turbocharged inline-six engine is found in the Ram 1500, Jeep Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer. It will soon be available in the new Charger, which is already available in the electric Charger Daytona model. In “Normal” mode, the 3.0-liter engine makes 420 horsepower, and in “High Output” mode, it makes 550 horsepower. Since it already works with the STLA Large base, the Hurricane engine looks like it will be the basis for a new hybrid powertrain in Alfa Romeo cars. The Stelvio and Giulia will still have six cylinders, even though the Alfas may have a different hybrid system, like the Tonale’s four-cylinder setup. Ficili also said that Italy would still be the place where the Giulia and Stelvio were put together. Later this year, more details about both types should be out there.
