• The 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid wagon features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, an electric motor, and a 21-kWh battery.
  • In the extra Race Start mode, the engine and e-motor make 604 horsepower, which is more than the 577 horsepower they had before.
  • The wagon accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and offers an optional electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.

The German company showed off the less flashy E53 last year, but we’re still excited about the next-generation Mercedes-AMG E63. Let’s hope it has a V-8 engine. But the plug-in hybrid AMG E53 isn’t bad either. It has a turbocharged inline-six engine that can make up to 604 horsepower. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid wagon was shown off by the company before it went on sale later this year. The powerful engine that was first shown in a sedan has now been made available in a wagon body style.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG E53 PHEV Delivers 604 Horsepower In A Classic Car Silhouette

The engine is the same 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine tuned by AMG, and there is one permanently excited synchronous electric motor on the trunk as in the car. The hybrid setup typically produces 577 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. But if you choose the Race Start mode, it can make an amazing 604 horsepower. Mercedes says that the car can go from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with force being applied to all four wheels. The E53 comes with adjustable dampers and rear-wheel steering, which is standard.

The nine-speed gearbox’s electric motor alone delivers 161 horsepower. Because of the 400-volt, 21-kWh battery placed under the trunk floor in the back, the wagon should not be able to carry as much as a regular E-class wagon. Mercedes didn’t say how far the electric version could go, but the car has a range of 42 miles.

The Race Start system in the AMG Dynamic Plus option boosts power by 27 horsepower and top speed from 155 to 174 mph. The kit includes AMG composite brakes with red calipers and front discs measuring 15.4 inches, an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, and active engine mounts. It also includes an AMG Performance steering wheel covered in microfiber and Nappa leather.

The E53 wagon will come in twelve paint colors, and a carbon-fiber package for the outside can be added as an extra. Instead of the usual 20-inch five-spoke wheels, 10-spoke, 20-inch, or 21-inch wheels can be used. Inside, there is a 17-speaker Burmester surround sound system and different leather and microfiber fabric choices. The optional Superscreen provides the front passenger with a 12.3-inch display.

There is also a limited-edition “Edition 1” car for the 2026 model year. Featuring 21-inch wheels, unique interior styling, and AMG graphics finished in Manufacturer Alpine Grey. Mercedes hasn’t said how much the new E53 wagon will cost, but the base price is $89,150. Since the E450 wagon costs $5,250 more than the E450 sedan, the E53 wagon is expected to start at around $90,000.
