• The 2026 Land Rover Defender 90 will only be available with the V-8 engine, which produces 518 horsepower.
  • In 2026, the two-door Defender will cost $116,250, which is more than the $58,750 it cost the year before.
  • Similarly, the LC500h V-6 hybrid, which didn’t sell well, is no longer available on the market. Instead, Lexus‘s beautiful coupe will only be offered as the V-8-powered LC500 in 2026.

The 2026 Models Of The Land Rover Defender 90 And The Lexus LC500 Are Each Exclusively Equipped With A V-8 Engine.

Although electric and hybrid cars are gaining popularity, the V-8 engine remains a significant presence in the automobile industry. For the 2026 model year, only two vehicles will be available with a V-8 engine option. The two-door Land Rover Defender 90, available with four- and six-cylinder engines, has been discontinued from the market. Starting in 2026, it will only be available with a supercharged V-8 engine. To maintain this theme, Lexus will only offer the 5.0-liter V-8 engine in its beautiful GT car starting in 2026. This will replace the hybrid V-6 engine found in the LC500h.

The Defender 90 used to come with three different engine choices. The base S trim level had a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that made 296 horsepower. The X-Dynamic SE launched featuring a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that delivered 395 horsepower, enhanced by an electric supercharger and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. A Land Rover representative told Invoice-pricing that the Defender 90 V8 was the top-of-the-line two-door, but for 2026, it is now the only way to get the wider 90.

The base price of the Defender 90 increases substantially as a result. The X-Dynamic SE was formerly priced at $70,350, whereas the S trim had a starting price of $58,750. For the 2026 model year, the V8 version of the Defender 90 starts at $116,250, a significant increase from previous years. A two-door Defender now costs almost twice as much as a 2025 Defender 90 S. The price has gone up by $57,500 since last year’s base price.

For 2026, Land Rover updated its boxy off-roader and introduced new models to the Defender 90 lineup. The most obvious change is that the two LED tabs in the upper outside corner of the headlights are now filled in, rather than being outlined. It now comes with a 13.1-inch tablet in every Defender.

The beautiful car and convertible models from Lexus remain unchanged for 2026; the only change is that the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine is now the only one available for purchase. A Lexus representative said that the LC500h is no longer on the market. It had a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and two electric motors, which together produced 354 horsepower.

However, most people won’t notice the LC500h because it’s been somewhat under the surface. In 2024, Lexus sold 1,446 LC500s with V-8 engines but only 18 LC hybrids. It wasn’t unusual for the ratio to be so off; only 37 hybrids were sold in 2023, while 1724 V-8s were. There were 19 sales of the LC500h in 2022, 14 in 2021, 14 in 2020, and 37 in 2019.

Except for the LC500h, which has been discontinued, the LC500 is running normally. The 2026 release introduces an updated Inspiration Series, featuring an exclusive Smoke Matte Gray exterior and a limited production run of just 200 units. The LC500 convertible also receives its own version of the Inspiration Series, featuring a unique Wind exterior color, Saddle Tan interior, and production limited to 350 units. For 2026, the LC500 has a starting price of $101,700, and the convertible version begins at $109,200.
