Rivian has released the R2, its second line of electric cars and SUVs. This is because the R1 series was so popular. The R2 is a cheap, small SUV with a starting price of less than $50,000. It was made to help the California-based electric vehicle startup break into the general market.

On average, the size of the R2 is comparable to that of the Porsche Macan, the BMW X3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. This item measures 66.9 inches in height, 75.0 inches in width, and 185.6 inches in length. To put it another way, it’s a high-end combination. A spokesperson said that it is also made to be exported around the world, unlike its older brother, the R1S, which is 15.4 inches longer, 7.0 inches wider, and 10.1 inches taller. A Rivian official said, “It’s friendly enough that the Europeans aren’t scared of it.”

The R2 is about the same size as a classic Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which is also known as an FSJ or Full Size Jeep. This is despite being much smaller than its bigger sister. It looks like an R1S that has been squished up on a screen. Even its cute, less narrow, pill-shaped eyes remind me of Pixar.

With more than 10 inches of ground clearance, the all-wheel-drive R2 has more than any of its competitors. This shows that Rivian puts a lot of stress on off-road capability. It would help if you had sure feet, whether you’re on the road or something more natural. But unlike its R1 truck and SUV siblings, the car’s ride will focus more on ease on the road and getting around town.

The R2’s drivetrain will come in three different styles when it comes out: with one motor driving the back wheels, two motors at each end of a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, or one motor driving the front and two motors driving the back. Additionally, there will be two distinct battery packs available.

Rivian says that the single motor and bigger batteries will give the car a range of more than 300 miles. A sporty version with three engines and all-wheel drive can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds. Its battery will charge from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes, and it will have a range of more than 300 miles in all settings and motor configurations, though specifics were not immediately known.

Plenty of Inside and outside

The R2 has room for five people and their bags in both the trunk and the space behind the seats. The R2 will have two gloveboxes, which will more than makeup for the R1 models’ annoying lack of storage space inside. Like on a standard American land yacht, the rear windshield and windows behind the C-pillar can be turned off to let fresh air into the cabin for any of the five people who need it. The back window also stops working.

If any of the people in the car—probably not all of them—want to sleep, both rows of seats can be folded flat. Rivian has made a new add-on called the Rivian Treehouse for people who want to sleep in their cars. This tent on a rooftop has a built-in lighting system, a movie screen, and a heated couch. Perfect for movie nights outside, like Maximum Overdrive, Joy Ride, Duel, or any other movie with trucks or SUVs. A two-bike rack and a small travel kitchen are some other sports items that R2 customers can buy, whether they want to look adventurous or not.

Customers may like the R2’s eleven cameras and five radar sensors, which let them see any of the few SUVs on the road that aren’t a manly beast. The R2’s weight wasn’t made public, but it’s about three tons, and the R1S’s is about seven thousand pounds. Thanks to over-the-air changes, the advanced driver assistance systems inside will be able to get new features all the time. The same goes for making other things better. A Rivian spokeswoman said that customers look forward to these regular updates, which are like small gifts.

When will R2T come out?

As a gift, some people thought that the R2 platform, like the one before it, would make a car. A Rivian representative told us that there were no plans for it at this time. “Just an SUV for now.” However, the R2 will come with a number of new exterior and interior color choices. Some of these will be available on R1 cars when they get their next update.

And finally, science. The controls on the R2 and R1 are the same: a small IP panel and a big screen for everything else. But the new SUV has a steering wheel that has been updated and now has real numbers on it.
