• The Bentley Flying Spur is receiving a facelift, along with a major engine upgrade.
  • The Flying Spur is adding the same plug-in hybrid V-8 powertrain as the updated Continental GT.
  • The new unit has a combustion engine, an electric motor, and a 25.9-kWh battery. They make 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque when put together.the same engine as the Flying Spur.

Since a long time ago, Bentley has known that it wants to stop making the W-12. However, we just learned what that means for the Flying Spur. The car company showed off an updated version of the flashy sedan. As with the new Continental GT, it will have the new plug-in hybrid V-8 engine.

The 771-HP Bentley Flying Spur with Hybrid V-8 will be shown for the first time on September 10

The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, which Bentley calls the “Ultra Performance Hybrid,” can make up to 584 horsepower at its peak. There is an electric motor between the engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that is connected to it. The motor makes 187 horsepower. They make 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque when put together.

Based on the somewhat hopeful European WLTP test cycle, the 25.9-kWh battery powers the electric motor and should allow the car to go up to 51 miles on electric power alone. Based on what the EPA says, it’s closer to 40 miles. The Flying Spur’s electric engine could make it go faster than the Conti, which can go as fast as 87 mph.

Yes, you are aware of all of these numbers. The powerful PHEV drivetrain has been seen in the bigger Volkswagen Group plants as well as in the updated Continental GT. This technology is used in both the new Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, but the Porsche is a little more powerful.

We only know a little else about the rebuilt Flying Spur besides the engine. The company only released one teaser picture of the new car, which showed a front end that had been completely rebuilt. As they said in their statement, we’ll have to wait until Bentley releases more information “in due course. “
