The base model 2026 Subaru Impreza will cost $27,790, which is $2,260 more than the base model 2025. The base version was taken away by Subaru, leaving only the Sport and RS trims. The 2026 Impreza also has a new paint color called Citron Yellow Pearl and black bumper stickers on the back. Sales are anticipated to begin this fall. Once one of Subaru’s best-selling models, the Impreza hatchback has slowly lost market share to SUVs like the Crosstrek, which now make up most of the American car market. Subaru is making changes to the Impreza for the 2026 model year after releasing a new wave of cars for the 2024 model year. The most significant change is the $2,260 increase in the Impreza’s starting price, resulting from the removal of the base model. The Impreza remains available in two trims: Sport and RS. The Sport starts at $27,790 and is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four engine generating 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. Priced from $30,690, the RS trim comes equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque—down by just two horsepower from the previous version. Even though it has two fewer horsepower, Subaru says that its 2.5-liter engines are more nimble now that they have been improved so that torque is available at lower rpm. There are paddle shifters on the steering wheel that make it feel like there are eight gears, even though both engines are paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. There is now a new paint color choice called Citron Yellow Pearl, and the rear badges are now black. The Impreza will also have Auto Vehicle Shutdown until 2026, which will turn off the engine after 30 minutes of inactivity. All 2026 Imprezas come with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance technology. Models that already have blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic warning now have emergency lane-keeping assist, which helps keep you from hitting something when you change lanes at speeds between 37 and 90 mph. Subaru is still making the 2026 Impreza in Gunma, Japan, and you’ll be able to buy one this fall.
