Karma Automotive has introduced its newest venture, the Amaris coupe, with plans to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Amaris shared its frame with the Gyesera and Revero sedans, as well as some of its style cues. The existing system is equipped with a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, while the plug-in hybrid model now features a BMW turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s easy to miss Karma Automotive, a small Californian company owned by Chinese people that grew out of Fisker Automotive’s bankruptcy. It looks like Karma only makes a few hundred cars a year, but the ones it does make are some of the most expensive and fancy cars on the market. Karma has come back with another beautiful car: the Amaris, a stylish coupe driven by a plug-in hybrid motor that increases the range. The beautiful two-door body looks a lot like Karma’s current model, the Revero (formerly the GS-6), and the electric Gyesera car’s March 2018 debut. The all-aluminum spaceframes for the Amaris and Gyesera were based on the Revero’s design, which was a change from the original Fisker Karma. The Amaris coupe is a beautiful car, even if its innards aren’t very new. Its smooth surfaces are broken up by sharp cuts on the bumpers and the leading edges of the doors. Karma hasn’t seen the inside, but she says the doors slide up to let people into the house. The Amaris has a striking design that Karma calls “Constellation,” and its body is made of aluminum and carbon fiber. It also has 22-inch forged aluminum wheels. The side-exit exhausts that go right behind the doors are another feature that stands out. Rumor has it that the Amaris’ range-extender is a “more powerful, next-generation” version of the one in its current models. Karma said that the gas-powered generator had been replaced with a bigger BMW turbocharged inline-four engine, but he didn’t say more about the drivetrain. The current plug-in hybrid electric car system allows for a longer range. It uses a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged engine to power two electric motors that produce a total of 536 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. The Amaris’s new system didn’t come with a power rating, but Karma thinks it can reach a top speed of 165 mph and go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. That is a full second faster than what the Revero car was said to have done and seven-tenths faster than what Karma thought the 590-horsepower electric Gyesera would have done. Karma also didn’t say how far the plug-in hybrid car was expected to go. Karma says that the design of the Amaris is based on the Kaveya coupe, which came out in 2023, even though the Amaris will be shipped first. As part of the coupe’s launch, Karma talked about its plans for the future. The pretty Kaveya movie was meant to come out this year, but now it won’t come out until 2027. At first, the Gyesera was supposed to come out at the end of last year with a fully electric engine. Instead, it was shown off in early 2024. Now, though, it will be out by the end of 2025 with a range-extender setup and a new look. Karma also said that the Gyesera would replace the Revero, and it looks like the electric version has been removed from the market. Karma says, “Changes in the near-term market demand for EVs” caused it to change its plans. Karma thinks that the first Amaris will be made in the fourth quarter of 2026.
