The Bentley Flying Spur is getting a makeover that includes a new heart. After it is updated, the Continental GT will have the same plug-in hybrid V-8 engine as the Flying Spur. The 25.9-kWh battery, combustion engine, and electric motor make the new device impressive. Power and torque are remarkable at 771 and 738 lb-ft. Bentley has known for a long time that it wants to stop making the W-12, but we just found out what that meant for the Flying Spur. The car company showed off an updated version of the flashy sedan. It will have the new plug-in hybrid V-8 engine from the updated Continental GT. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, which Bentley calls the “Ultra Performance Hybrid,” can make up to 584 horsepower at its peak. There is an electric motor between the engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that is connected to it. The motor makes 187 horsepower. A combined 771 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque are their outputs. Based on the somewhat hopeful European WLTP test cycle, the 25.9-kWh battery powers the electric motor and should allow the car to go up to 51 miles on electric power alone. Based on what the EPA says, it’s probably closer to 40 miles. The electric engine in the Flying Spur might let it go faster than the Conti’s top speed of 87 mph. Yes, you are aware of all of these numbers. In addition to powering the upgraded Continental GT, the powerful PHEV drivetrain has been seen around the bigger Volkswagen Group’s factories. The new Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid both use a slightly more powerful version of the same technology. While we’re left in suspense about the other updates to the Flying Spur, one thing is certain-the anticipation for more information is palpable. With only a single teaser picture released, showing a completely redesigned front end, we eagerly await Bentley’s further revelations “in due course,” as they stated in their announcement.
